King Promotes World Week

MTV's Peter King is encouraging his North American audience to get a sense of what life is like in a developing country by participating in World Week. "There are lots of fun ways to get involved," he says. "One of my favorites is the Water Walk, where you put, I don't know, a 300 gallon thing of water on your head. Ok, it's not THAT heavy but it's pretty heavy."

King also encourages people to participate in other World Week activities, including Literacy Code. "This is going to give you a sense of how FRUSTRATING it is to be illiterate," he says.

King, who hosts MTV's Sandblast, is featured on other MTV programs, recorded several video segments to help promote World Week. Videos from King's band, Dakoda Motor Co., also are used in a World Week video program.

"What do you do when you see all these negative images on TV?" King asks. "Do you get bummed out? Do you sit back and tune out? Do you change the channel?"

"When you see people starving; you see homeless people; you see senseless destruction or environmental disasters, what do you do? You could just sit back and hope things get better. Or, you could get involved and make a difference through World Week."
